Listening Uninterruptedly
And Samuel grew, and the LORD was with him, and did let none of his words fall to the ground. 1 Samuel 3:19
Read 1 Samuel 3:15-19
When Eli asked, Samuel revealed to him what the Lord had told to him concerning the future of Eli’s ungodly sons. Eli could not deny that they deserved it, and his reaction to Samuel’s message again reveals his weakness. It seems that he resigned himself to everything that happened, merely going with the flow, instead of taking measures to set right what was clearly wrong and contrary to the will of the Lord. Eli failed to earnestly warn his sons of the seriousness of life and the impending judgment of God. How tragic! In contrast to this, Samuel experienced that the Lord was with him, also during the time when he was growing up in an ungodly atmosphere. He walked the same path as the Psalmist of Psalm 119, listening to what God the Lord said through His Word. Time and time again he saw that the Lord fulfills what He has said, both in his own personal life as well as in the whole world. Do you see this as well? Is God also your guide as you mature?
Thought: The only sure and safe way to go through life is to pay attention to what God says in His Word.
Psalter 190:3, 4 (based on Psalm 71) Deliver me from wicked hands, Save me from men unjust, For Thou, Jehovah, art my hope, From youth Thou art my trust. Thou hast upheld me in Thy grace From childhood’s early days; To Thee from Whom I life received Will give constant praise.
