All About Us

“That our sons may be as plants grown up in their youth; that our daughters may be as corner stones, polished after the similitude of a palace” (KJV)

“That our sons may be as plants grown up in their youth; That our daughters may be as pillars, sculptured in palace style” (NKJV)

This verse (and our name) is a prayer, a wish, a desire that God may bless us so that our sons and daughters—our young people—may grow up, not only healthy, but thriving, flourishing, strong, and beautiful. Physically, but most especially spiritually.

This Psalm lets us know that this doesn’t happen automatically or by our own effort. Psalm 144 is a Psalm about God as a warrior God, who protects, delivers, and shields us (verses 1-2), and who defeats our enemies for us (verses 5-11). The Bible elsewhere describes our greatest enemies: Sin (in us, and in the world), death, and the devil. And this Psalm is an admission—also a declaration—that we ultimately need God to fight this fight for us (see also verses 3-4, about how strong we are). The turning point in this Psalm is verse 12, where the Psalm writer is convinced that if God does fight and defeat our spiritual enemies for us, then we will be blessed in our lives. And then he lists the blessings (verses 12-15). And yes, these are physical blessings—but ultimately they are spiritual blessings. And these blessings begin with the verse from which we get our name, Plants & Pillars (verse 12).

Our prayer is that God will use this project to help you grow—our sons as plants fully grown, and our daughters as corner pillars, made for a palace. But this prayer depends on God fighting for us. And so the content found here will point you to our Triune God—Father, Son and Holy Spirit—who together do the work of salvation for us and in us, centering on the cross of Jesus Christ. It will point you to yourself, and describe you as the Bible describes you, to help you see your need for God, and your need to be born again. And it will help you make sense of the things you experience in this world—especially in sin and salvation. And so every article, every video, every Bible Study will be posted with this prayer: That God bless the youth of our churches and make them as Plants & Pillars.

We hope you visit often!
