Who We Are

Plants & Pillars is a Christian ministry, aiming for young people to come to know the Lord Jesus Christ, grow in their faith, and learn from God’s Word. We seek to minister to the youth through our app and website, and the various forms of content posted on Plants & Pillars. We provide helpful, relevant, and Biblical content through articles, sermons, youth contributions, videos, and more. We also host events, and welcome your questions to be submitted for our trusted pastors to engage with them in our much-loved series: Ask a Pastor.

Before becoming Plants & Pillars, we were a magazine for young people called the Youth Messenger. In 2017, we made the switch to become digital with our website and app. Helping run Plants & Pillars is our wonderful team. We have a director and an administrator who guide the ministry’s direction, content, and website/app management together. We also have two pastors who edit everything that is posted, helping ensure that Plants & Pillars is trustworthy and rooted in the Bible and the Reformed faith.

Plants & Pillars is commissioned by the Free Reformed Churches of North America, especially targeted at the youth from the Free Reformed and Heritage Reformed Churches. However, we warmly welcome anyone from other churches or backgrounds to profit from our mission at Plants & Pillars.

Our Name & Mission

“That our sons may be as plants grown up in their youth; That our daughters may be as pillars, sculptured in palace style” (Psalm 144:12 NKJV).

Our name is from Psalm 144:12, which is a prayer that our sons and daughters - our young people - would be strong and healthy in the Lord. The imagery of plants and pillars shows how we are called to be rooted in the foundations of Biblical truth and grow to serve in God’s kingdom. Everything on Plants & Pillars is aimed toward this mission: that our youth would know the Lord, grow in the Lord, and encourage others to do the same.

Psalm 144 is a Psalm about God being a defender, protector, and deliverer for His people. God’s people are weak and sinful, but in His strength, they receive salvation, forgiveness, and grace. These blessings enable them, even young people, to be like plants and to be like pillars, strong in the Lord. Even in our youth, we are called to serve God with our whole heart, soul, and mind (Matt. 22:37). We pray that Plants & Pillars will help you to do so! Whether you use Plants & Pillars for your own spiritual blessing, to help other young people, or as a parent for your covenant child, we pray that the Lord would use Plants & Pillars to make our “sons as plants grown in their youth” and our “daughters to be as pillars, sculptured in palace style.”
