Woman

Woman

And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Genesis 2:23

Read Proverbs 31:10-31

Adam received Eve from the hand of God. When he saw Eve, he cried out, This is now bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh. She shall be called Woman because she was taken out of Man. As a result, Adam’s heart was filled with great joy. He experienced much more than butterflies in his stomach. When Adam saw Eve, he knew that she was meant for him. God had given her to him; she was God’s gift.

Eve received a beautiful name: Adam called her Woman. This name expressed his joy. It was a ballad expressed by a man who praised God, for he had received a woman who bore God’s image as he himself did; yet, she was created different, for she was given as his help-meet. This fulfilled the purpose for which God gave marriage.

Theirs was quite a different love song than we hear in our day. Especially if we listen to the rock music of today, we get the feeling that everything circles around erotica and sex appeal. According to the world, that is supposed to give happiness in a marriage. Yet, this happiness is hollow and empty. Adam’s heart, however, overflows with happiness when he receives his wife as another image bearer of God, but one who is different than him. Because Adam and his wife suited each other, God the Creator could say: behold, it was very good.

Thought: A godly spouse is a gift of God.

Psalter 360: 1,2 (based on Psalm 128) Blessed the man that fears Jehovah, Walking ever in His ways; By thy toil thou shalt be prospered And be happy all thy days. In thy wife thou shalt have gladness, She shall fill thy home with good, Happy in her loving service And the joys of motherhood.
