Where Must One Find a Spouse?

Where Must One Find a Spouse?

But thou shalt go unto my country, and to my kindred, and take a wife unto my son Isaac. Genesis 24:4

Read Genesis 24:28-49

Abraham, the father of the faithful, desired that his son Isaac would have a God fearing wife. A marriage, after all, ought to be a reflection of the relationship between Christ, the heavenly Bridegroom, and His bride on earth. True love will be found wherever a husband and wife seek refuge under the cross of Golgotha.

That is why Abraham would not seek a wife for Isaac from Canaan. It is of vital importance where we look for a wife. Perhaps you are looking for a steady relationship. You long for a partner with whom you can share your whole life. That is not wrong. But where are you seeking such a friend? Whenever someone looks for a steady relationship in places where the Lord is not served, they cannot expect God’s blessing. Abraham did not look for Isaac’s wife among the ungodly Canaanites. You must not look for a partner at worldly venues or celebrations either. In most cases, this will result in a partner with whom you cannot serve the Lord. Therefore, go to gatherings where church-going young people meet. It is most honorable when you may find a partner with whom you can worship God.

Whoever becomes yoked with an unbeliever will have to reap the consequences of it. Then you will miss being able to share the most important matters in life. Married life can become very lonely when only one of the partners knows the Lord and desires to live for Him.

Thought: Whoever looks for a steady relationship ‘in the world’ cannot expect God’s blessing.

Psalter 400: 3,7 (based on Psalm 146) Happy is the man that chooses Israel’s God to be his aid; He is blessed whose hope of blessing On the Lord his God is stayed. Over all God reigns forever, Through all ages He is King; Unto Him, thy God, O Zion, Joyful hallelujahs sing.
