Waiting In Faith

“Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless. 2 Peter 3:13,14

Read 2 Peter 3:13-18

Waiting and walking belong together more than we realize. Whoever takes the hope of a new heaven and a new earth seriously will show this in their walk of life. Suppose her Majesty the Queen was scheduled to come to your town next spring. Would your community not make some plans for this occasion? Undoubtedly it would; a committee would be formed with the task of making a suitable program. Everything would have to be worked out to the last detail; everything would revolve around her Majesty the Queen! What a bad impression a community would give if, when she arrived, no plans had been made! What an insult!

How much more the Christian is called to be ready for Christ’s return; he or she lives in anticipation of a new heaven and a new earth. Peter called this being holy in conversation and godliness. In verse fourteen, he speaks of being found in peace, without spot, and blameless. When Christ returns, will He find us without spot or wrinkle?

Just think of a young lady who has been given the privilege of presenting a bouquet of flowers to the Queen. If her dress is wrinkled and splattered with mud, she would make a bad impression. Should she not have put more effort into her appearance by changing into a clean outfit to meet the Queen? Should we not also seek to keep ourselves spotless and clean spiritually as we anticipate the Lord’s return? Distance yourself therefore from everything that can defile you and lead you astray.

Thought: Spiritually speaking, where do you find spots on your clothes?

Psalter 139:1,3,5 (based on Psalm 50) The mighty God, the Lord, Has spoken unto all; From rising to the setting sun The nations hear His call. Our God shall surely come, Nor silence shall He keep; Devouring fire shall herald Him, About Him storms shall sweep. Let all My chosen saints Before Me gathered be, Those that by sacrifice have sealed Their promise unto Me.
