Victory!

Victory!

And the men of Israel gathered themselves together out of Naphtali, and out of Asher, and out of all Manasseh, and pursued after the Midianites. Judges 7:23

Read Judges 7:9-25

Gideon was instructed to fight the enemy with only three hundred men. He made a battle plan with this small group of men, dividing them into three divisions. His trust in the Lord did not mean that he had no plan. On the contrary, with sanctified insight, Gideon sought to do what was required of him. Trusting in the Lord does not mean that we become passive or have a wait and see attitude.

As Christians, we are called to fight against spiritual enemies. This is our responsibility. We ought not, however, to place ourselves in dangerous situations unnecessarily. Our strength lies in the manner spiritual warfare is fought. Gideon’s small regiments were able to gain victory over the enemy so God would receive all the honor. We are encouraged never to have too small thoughts of God.

The question facing us today is whether the Lord is with us as churches and individuals. Large numbers are not important. Are you sure that the Lord is personally with you? Have you learned who the Lord is, just as Gideon did? If so, then the Lord will send deliverance in every situation, and sometimes in surprising ways. When you experience this, you can only marvel that the Lord fulfills His will in a way far beyond what you could have thought possible.

Thought: Does the Lord still perform miracles today?

Psalter 440: 5 (based on Psalm 77) Holy in Thy habitation Are Thy ways, Lord of creation. There’s no god, O God, like Thee, Clothed with strength and majesty. Thou eternal art and glorious, All Thy wondrous works victorious: Let the nations, spread abroad, Know that Thou alone art God.
