Thrown Out! They answered and said unto him, Thou wast altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out. Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when he had found him, he said unto him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God? He answered and said, Who is he Lord, that I might believe on him? And Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee. And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshiped him. John 9:34-38
Read 2 Timothy 3:10-17; John 4:25-30
We read that they cast him out! It was a most terrible thing in those days to be banned from the synagogue! This meant that his job would be in jeopardy; he might as well close his business. A person thrown out of the synagogue was shunned by the community. That’s why people seldom spoke up, especially in defense of the Lord Jesus.
How afraid we can be of men! You can be faithful in your church attendance
and your friends might think you are overdoing it. This brings much turmoil.
Or, when it becomes your desire to make confession of faith the devil
says: You? You need to be more holy first! Whoever seeks to be a follower of
the Lord Jesus will always experience some opposition. The man born blind
became a follower of Jesus, though he was not fully conscious of this yet.
But the Lord Jesus found him. How wonderful! This also brought confrontation with it, for the Lord placed one single question before him: Dost thou believe on the Son of God? What is your answer to this question? Would you have to say with this man: Who is he Lord, that I might believe on him?
How gracious and good the Lord truly is, also today, when He answers: It is he that talketh with thee. The Lord speaks through His Word also today. Do you believe this?
Thought: Our primary need is a true faith.
Psalter 324: 2,4 (based on Psalm 119) Teach me to know Thy holy way And think upon Thy deeds; In grief I ask for promised grace According to my needs. I cleave unto Thy truth, O Lord; From shame deliver me; In glad obedience I will live Thro’ strength bestowed by Thee.
