The Lord Reigns
And Elijah said, As the LORD of hosts liveth, before whom I stand, I will surely shew myself unto him today. 1 Kings 18:15
Read 1 Kings 18:6-15
Obadiah was the chief servant in the king’s royal court. The Lord had used him to safely hide a hundred of His prophets during Jezebel’s evil reign. Now, in the words surrounding our text, Obadiah was ordered to tell Ahab that Elijah had returned to the land of Israel. He feared that if he brought the message to King Ahab and Elijah was not found, then Ahab would put him to death. Obadiah had served the Lord from his youth, but here he lost sight of the fact that Ahab could not harm him without God’s will. Obadiah was not at the mercy of King Ahab; he was under God’s protecting care. That is why he could deliver the message he was told to bring.
Are you afraid to fulfill what the Lord expects of you? Are you scared to obey the Lord? That is not good, especially if you have learned to serve and fear Him. When you fear God, you are under His protecting care. Therefore, seek to be honest and forthright, also when applying for a job. Let your companions know whom you serve. Moreover, if the Lord wants you to have a particular job, you will receive it. Do not be afraid of being laid off when you take a biblical stand on a certain issue that does not allow you to perform a specific duty. Be assured that a boss cannot fire you and worldly colleagues cannot prevent you from receiving a promotion without the Lord’s will. Whoever puts all their trust in the Lord and seeks to do His will shall not be disappointed.
Thought: The foundation of your life is secure when you trust in almighty God.
Psalter 126:1,5 (based on Psalm 46) God is our refuge and our strength, Our ever present aid, And, therefore, though the earth remove, We will not be afraid; Though hills amidst the seas be cast, Though foaming waters roar, Yea, though the mighty billows shake The mountains on the shore. Be still and know that I am God, O’er all exalted high; The subject nations of the earth My Name shall magnify. The Lord of Hosts is on our side, Our safety to secure; The God of Jacob is for us A refuge strong and sure.
