The Importance of Prayer

The Importance of Prayer

And Isaac went out to meditate in the field at the eventide. Genesis 24:63

Read Genesis 24:50-67

In our Scripture portion today, we read how Isaac and Rebecca met for the first time. Isaac knew that his father’s servant had been sent out to look for a wife for him. Perhaps he also knew that he was due to come back very soon. Whatever the case, Isaac went out into the fields to pray; he sought the solitude of a still evening to draw near unto God.

We can imagine that he also prayed for a fine wife with whom he would be able to serve the Lord. We can say that he received Rebecca as an answer to prayer. May this fact also be an encouragement to you! Prayer is very necessary when looking for a suitable, steady relationship with the opposite sex. It is important to ask the Lord if a particular girl / boy is an individual with whom you might share your life. Pray to God for a partner with whom you can serve Him!

May God guide you in this most important decision. Do not set your affections on a person thoughtlessly. Consider and meditate on the situation first, and when you have good reasons, reveal your affection. Allow heart issues to guide you and not external beauty or one’s standing in life. It is vitally important to seek a steady relationship with a Christian. If you do not do so, you will have to bear the consequences of this for the rest of your life.

Thought: It is wrong to begin a serious relationship without seeking God’s approval of this relationship.

Psalter 351:1,2 (based on Psalm 123) To Thee, O Lord I lift my eyes, O Thou enthroned above the skies; As servants watch their master’s hand, Or maidens by their mistress stand, So to the Lord our eyes we raise, Until His mercy He displays. To Thee, O Lord, I lift my eyes, O Thou enthroned above the skies.
