“The brazen serpent”
And the LORD sent fiery serpents. —Numbers 21:6
Read Numbers 21:6-9
The Lord grew weary of His people’s complaints and sent fiery snakes to assault them. Without an antidote, a bite would result in death, and soon the desert was littered with motionless corpses.
Terrified, the people came to their senses and begged Moses to intercede for them. Again, as a type of Christ, Moses asked the Lord for mercy and the Lord heard him. God commanded Moses to make a serpent of brass and to raise it up high on a pole. Any person who had been bitten by the ser-pents could look up at the brazen serpent and be healed. This bronze serpent foreshadowed the cross of Christ, raised in the miserable wilderness of our humanity, where He shed His precious blood for a sinful people.
Do your sins burden you? Are you sick and weary of your wicked ways? Do you seek peace with God? Look at the cross of Christ even if you don’t know how and it seems so far off. Trust in the Lord and He will save you! “Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world” (John 1:29).
Israel continued on their journey after this great calamity. Our life journey also continues. Is it with the Lord or without Him?
