Spiritual Weapons

“Spiritual weapons”

Put on the whole armour of God. —Ephesians 6:11

Read Ephesians 6:10-12

Paul urged the Christians to become strong in the Lord. Spiritual strength and courage are necessary to fight a spiritual war. Spiritual warfare is not necessarily a life and death struggle against human enemies, against people consisting of flesh and blood. Instead, we have an enemy that uses various war strategies. In this century, the mighty enemy is comprised of evil governments, rulers and dictators. These three forms of the enemy serve to indicate the various spiritual powers that exist. But there are also spiritual enemies “in the air.” This brings even greater danger, because they attack us before we are even aware of it. There-fore it is of utmost necessity that Christians live close to the Lord and become strong “in the power of his might” (v.10).

How do these powers become manifest? Sometimes they come in direct temptations to sin; you may be tempted to go places or to engage in situations where sin is openly committed. Sometimes you may be drawn toward things which in themselves may not seem sinful, yet they keep you away from the Lord or may even become idols. Sometimes you can even be tempted by a false religiosity. You and I are called to fight against these sins; we are called to engage in this struggle. Therefore repent and pour out your heart before the Lord, for He alone must be our Refuge!

What do you understand is meant by “spiritual wickedness in high places”?
