Sinful Anxiety
And Ahab said to Obadiah, Go into the land, unto all fountains of water, and unto all brooks: peradventure we may find grass to save the horses and mules alive, that we lose not all the beasts. 1 Kings 18:5
Read 1 Kings 18:1-5
Ahab was a very wicked king. Due to the long drought, there was not enough food or drink for the horses and mules of the royal stable. This made the king very anxious; these animals were integral to his army. If they perished, his military power would be greatly reduced, making him vulnerable to enemies. However, Ahab was not concerned for his subjects. The needs of his own people did not cause him any distress. He was a sinful king who had led the people in serving idols; he did not care for their eternal well being at all. Let us beware that we do not think we are any better than this ungodly king. By nature all mankind regards prestige and might of greater importance than serving God. Wealth and possessions rank higher than God. We are more concerned about our possessions than our souls. Do we not take care to feed our cats and dogs, yet we neglect to provide good nourishment for our souls? A miracle is performed by God when our salvation becomes the number one need in our lives. This does not imply that the everyday activities no longer mean anything to us, for God’s children are also given a task when it comes to the use of their talents and possessions. They may not simply consume the gifts given them. However, the things of eternal value should reign supreme. Seeking the kingdom of God and His righteousness is of greatest importance to them. Then the Lord will provide for everything else as well. What takes priority in your life? What do you worry about most?
Thought: Seeking God’s kingdom needs to have the first place in your life.
Psalter 43:5,6 (based on Psalm 20) How vain their every confidence Who on mere human help rely; But we remember for defence The Name of God, the Lord Most High. Now we arise and upright stand, While they, subdued and helpless fall; Jehovah, save us by Thy hand, The King give answer when we call.
