Persevering Steadfastness

Persevering Steadfastness

And it came to pass, as she spake to Joseph day by day. Genesis 39:10

Read Genesis 39:7-11

Potiphar’s wife did not just confront Joseph with temptation once. She would not give up. Time and time again she used smooth words and seductive conduct to entice him to sin.

How do you dress? How many young men and women fall into the trap of dressing to show off their bodies. Are we so naive that we do not realize that a young girl wearing skimpy, tight and revealing clothing is liable to arouse sexual desires in a young man, and that a young man going shirtless arouses a young woman? Do we regulate what enters into the eye and ear gates of our lives? Do we realize what affect our speech, as well as our suggestive clothing, may have upon the ear and eye gates of our peers?

In verse 10 of Genesis 39, we read how very emphatically Joseph refused to listen to Potipher’s wife, to lie with her or to be with her. This tells us that Joseph guarded the eye and ear gates of his life. He opposed every opportunity to sin, bolting the door of his heart. The Lord was with him.

Question: In 1 Thessalonians 5:22, we read, “Abstain from all appearance of evil.” Do you follow this command?

Psalter 428:3 (based on Psalm 119) O Lord, how shall a youth preserve his way, At every turn by vanity surrounded? In truth, if he Thy statutes will obey If on Thy Word his attitudes are founded. Thou, whom I’ve sought, O let me never stray From Thy commandments, lest I be confounded.
