One Thing I Know

One Thing I Know

Then again called they the man that was blind, and said unto him, Give God the praise: we know that this man is a sinner. He answered and said, Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see. John 9:24,25

Read Psalm 146

Trying to be religious without a personal relationship with God can only lead to disappointment and struggles. This is because everything circles around our religious activities as we try to uphold our own religiosity. From verse 14 onward we see the difference between serving God according to man’s thoughts and the true fear of the Lord. The first group of people did not want anything to do with the Lord Jesus. The second individual served God for Jesus’ sake. Therein lies the true secret in serving the Lord. That is why this service is not a slavish service but more like the obedience of a child, due to respect and mutual love. All of God’s children experience the love of God through the power of the Holy Spirit given them (Rom. 5:5). Through the Word of God they are taught that this is only made possible for Jesus’ sake. Examine yourself therefore whether you are merely religious or if you serve God through Jesus’ merits (2 Cor. 13:5).

After the Pharisees had interrogated the man who was born blind, and even questioned his parents, they still did not believe in Christ’s miracle. So, for a second time, they summoned the man. Just listen to what they said to him: Give God the praise: we know that this man is a sinner. The former beggar did not know whether Jesus was a sinner or not, but one thing he knew: Whereas I was blind, now I see. He gave God all the praise. However, the Pharisees hardened their hearts against better knowledge, for they knew the Scriptures. Hardening one’s heart is such a fearful, dangerous thing! Against better knowledge, you refuse to believe that the Lord Jesus is truly the Son of God. May God keep us from such heresy!

Thought: To harden your heart is very dangerous and life threatening.

Psalter 432: 4 (based on Psalm 99) Then let all accord Honor to the Lord, At His footstool bow, Seek His favor now, Worship and acclaim His exalted Name, All ye high and lowly; God alone is holy.
