Not Alone

“Not alone”

Arise and eat. —1 Kings 19:5

Read 1 Kings 19:5-8

Elijah thought that he was the only one in the desert, but God sent an angel from heaven to help His crushed child. Elijah was so down that he wasn’t even surprised by it. Instead of rebuking Elijah for his flight into the wilderness, God gently nudged His child. The angel dealt graciously with him. Was Elijah on the right path in the wilderness? Wherever God’s children are, they will always be under the care and protection of their heavenly Father.

After Elijah received nourishment from a simple meal, he took a forty-day journey to Mount Horeb. Centuries earlier, the children of Israel had wandered in the wilderness in the same place, and they, too, were sustained by God Himself. It would have been an important lesson for Elijah, that God had not changed and that in His care for His people He remained ever the same.

In what way do we see God’s care for His children today?
