Biblical Examples

“Seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses…” —Hebrews 12:1

Read Hebrews 11:32 — 12:2

In Hebrews 11:32 it seems that the author sighs, thinking to himself, “Should I show more examples of faith?” Think of the persecutions that many Christians had to endure. They were cast into arenas to face lions; they were burned at the stake and killed by the sword. Why did they not forsake the truth to save their lives? Because they knew that when they died they would enter into eternal glory, to be forever with the Lord. But how could they be so sure? Only through faith: “Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us” (Hebrews 12:1).

The Bible is full of examples of people who received remission of their sins by faith. This shows us that this is also possible for us. We are called to turn to the Lord today. What do we do with this call? Lay it aside? If so, we are in danger of losing our lives! Look unto the Lord Jesus, the Captain of salvation. He will lead you and is willing to give you true faith.

Is your hope upon the Lord, who takes care of all things?
