Hallowed Be Thy name
“Not for your sakes do I this…” —Ezekiel 36:32
Read Ezekiel 36:16-32
Several important aspects of prayer include seeking to honour God, sanctifying His name, and seeking to praise Him. We often forget this last part. Very often we approach God with our wish list, but the Lord does not teach us this in the model prayer, the Lord’s Prayer. When we pray “hallowed be Thy name,” then we actually bring praise unto God. The Lord was often grieved because His people brought dishonour upon His name, as we read in Ezekiel 36. Israel profaned the name of the Lord so terribly that He sent them away into exile. His name was profaned by the heathen as well, when they said to the Jews, “What kind of God do you serve who brings you into such distress?”
And so we see that God’s name is dishonoured continually, by both God’s people and the heathen. Is that also true of us?
How do you seek to hallow the name of God?
