Keeping His Commandments

“Keeping His commandments”

He that keepeth the commandment, keepeth his own soul. —Proverbs 19:16

Read Proverbs 19:1-17

Our text speaks about the keeping of a commandment, which in turn implies that we esteem it. When we esteem the law of the Lord, then we will guard our soul. But can we keep the Law of God? We have wandered far away from Him, and if we are hon-est, we must admit that we are unable to keep the commandments of God. We ought to be aware of this every day, all day, letting the fact of our transgressions sink down into our hearts.

However, if you are convinced that you are unable to fulfill the commandments of God, then look to the Lord Jesus. He has kept the Law of God completely! He came to this earth to fulfill the will of the Lord, which means that when we stumble we may find forgiveness with the Lord Jesus Christ. However, that also means that we must confess our sin and our guilt to the Lord so that He might become our personal Mediator and Redeemer. Only those who have Christ as their Savior will be sanctified by the Holy Spirit. Only these people can begin to keep God’s commandments.

What is the central theme in the Law of God?
