Jesus is the Son of Man

Jesus is the Son of Man

Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be? Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness. If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things? And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven. John 3:9-13

Read: John 6:35-40

Nicodemus understood very little of what the Lord had said, therefore he continued questioning Him. In response Jesus said, Are you a master of Israel? The Lord did not say this to confuse him, but to point out that he ought to have known the answers. Nicodemus was a teacher, and if he did not understand the Lord’s instruction when He used earthly illustrations, how would he understand more difficult truths? The Lord Jesus made it clear that His teaching was very different from what Nicodemus taught, for He had an intimate understanding of His own teaching. He came down from heaven; He was the Son of man.

This term has its origin from the Old Testament; it was used to indicate the Messiah who would one day come. In this way the Lord clearly revealed who He was. He was not merely a teacher come from God; He was the Messiah Himself. He was much, much more than Nicodemus could have imagined when he went to the Lord.

Did Nicodemus begin to understand the Lord’s identity? Did he perceive that He was the Messiah? It is a most wonderful experience when someone receives instruction from the Lord Jesus through His Word, so they begin to understand who He is. Moreover, when the Holy Spirit reveals Christ Jesus as the long promised Messiah and Saviour, you will never become weary of looking unto Him. He will become your eternal passion.

Thought: Do you long to hear pastors preaching about the Lord Jesus?

Psalter 124:1,2 (based on Psalm 45) My heart doth overflow, A goodly theme is mine; My eager tongue with joyful song Doth praise the King Divine. Supremely fair Thou art, Thy lips with grace overflow; His richest blessings evermore Doth God on thee bestow.
