“God’s faithfulness alone”

People sometimes argue strongly about whether something is allowed or not and then use Bible texts to back themselves up. Winning the argument is what matters the most to them. The Apostle Paul teaches us a different approach when dealing with God’s Word.
To start with, he explains that meat first offered to idols may in-deed be eaten, for idols are nothing and do nothing. However, do we put the first commandment into practice when we scold an-other person who has problems eating meat that has first been dedicated to idols? You see, to trust in the Lord alone means that I not only love God but also my neighbour in a measured way. When you offend another person by your attitude, you are stifling the work of the Holy Spirit in that person’s life. And that means that you are not bringing the first commandment into practice; you do not totally submit yourself to God and your love is not what it should be. Submission to the Lord requires you to keep the weakness of your neighbour in mind. By doing this, you to-tally surrender yourself to God and that is what the first commandment is all about. So when you are debating the lawfulness of a certain action for Christians, consider how the force of your opinion might hurt the new spiritual growth of someone else. Ask the Lord to grant you a submissive and considerate heart.
