God Gives Light
And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. Genesis 1:3
Read 2 Corinthians 4:1-7
The more complicated a job is around the house, the greater may be the variety of tools required to complete it. If a nail needs to be driven into a 2 x 4, a simple hammer will suffice. But when steel poles need to be driven into the ground, much heavier equipment is required. And yet, when the greatest work in the whole of man’s history was performed, God simply used His voice, calling into being the things that were not. The refrain, and God said, is repeated over and over again in the opening verses of Genesis 1. God’s word alone was sufficient to bring the heavens and the earth into existence. Psalm 33:9 states, “For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast.” This was also the case on the first day when the Lord called forth light. This light was not in a concentrated form as we read in verse sixteen, but nevertheless there was light that drove away the darkness.
When God re-creates man, a similar change occurs. When the Lord begins to speak to us personally, we cannot ignore His voice. When He commands, we must listen. When His light shines into your heart, you will discover how disorderly and void it is. This is a frightening experience because God’s light reveals our sin and unmasks us for who we are. But once God’s light has shone into your life, you can no longer continue without it. Spiritually speaking, you become like a child who is afraid of the dark. This is a foreign concept for those who are still comfortable in the darkness caused by their sins. Have you recognized these struggles in your life?
