FRC Youth Camp 2026 Recap

FRC Youth Camp 2026 was once again a huge success. From the moment we pulled up and stepped out of our cars, we felt a sense of relief knowing that we were entering a weekend of learning from God’s word, fun games, awesome counsellors, creating and cultivating friendships, and unplugging from our phones and the rest of the world. By the time we had walked up to the registration table, we had been hugged by our friends, enthusiastically welcomed by the counsellors (who likely have been busy matchmaking for us!) and had conversations to frantically find our rooms. These are the moments when we realize that FRC camp is a special experience!
This year at camp we were blessed to hear from Pastor John VanEyk as our speaker and Pastor Hutton as our pastor on Sunday. Our theme was Enough – Content in Christ with the theme passage being Psalm 107:9 “For He satisfied the longing soul and fills the hungry soul with goodness.” Pastor VanEyk started the weekend off by talking to us about discontentment. In his speech he spoke to us about the different forms discontentment takes, like complaining, comparing, greed, etc. Then he talked about complaining and discontentment and explained how these are not God-honouring responses. He finished off the speech by comparing a complaining life and a converted life so that we could more easily see which one we so often fall under. The next evening Pastor VanEyk gave a speech on Contentment Defined. In this speech, he gave 11 attributes of contentment found in a person and spoke briefly on each of them. On Sunday morning we heard from Pastor Hutton who preached a sermon on “God the Only Source of True Satisfaction and Security.” Focusing on Psalm 115, he talked about David’s prayer, pledge, portion, and prospect showing us that David was a great example of someone who put his security and satisfaction in God. In the afternoon, he focused on Mark 8:27-28 “What will a Man Give in Exchange for his Soul” and talked about the worth of the soul, the waste of a soul, and the well-being of our soul. And to wrap up the speeches, we heard once more from Pastor VanEyk on “Learning Contentment” where he gave us practical examples on how to be content and fight discontentment in our everyday lives.
Throughout the weekend, apart from listening to speeches and being set up by counsellors, we enjoyed spending time in our discussion groups, playing sports, playing games, singing, or making/growing friendships. This year rained quite a bit too, so things looked a little different. Instead of normal volleyball and soccer games, we were playing in the rain and slipping all over. Instead of nicely walking to church on Sunday, people were running as fast as they could or carrying mattresses or buckets over their heads to hopefully not get too wet. There were canoe races in the areas where it flooded and swimming races too. Although the rain made the weekend a little cooler than normal, we still had fun and made great memories that we never could have without the rain, reminding us that God always has a plan and knows what best for us.
We are so grateful to all our counsellors. We appreciated their willingness to talk with us, enjoy time together, or be a good sport about having garbage buckets of water dumped on them. The weekend could not run without them, and they are always great fun to be around. Also, we are grateful for all the snacks and meal volunteers who keep us full to the brim all weekend with amazing food. And finally, Jake and Ally, the camp directors who put so much work into this weekend to make it an great place for young people to come together and grow in their faith through sermons, singing, and great fellowship. FRC camp is truly a wonderful place to be on the long weekend and for anyone who is considering or debating about going, my advice is go! You won’t regret it!
