Do Not Respond

“Do not respond”

Answer not a fool according to his folly. —Proverbs 26:4

Read Proverbs 26:1-16

We utter countless words each day, but what do we actually talk about? We need to reflect on our conversations to discern whether or not they are spoken to God’s glory. One sin we can easily fall into is slandering others while giving our opinions.

The reality of life is that we often speak with people who have no interest in God and His Word. At times, they may make comments that are very foolish, even ungodly. How should we react? In our text, we are instructed simply not to respond. Foolish questions spoken by foolish people should not be answered. Instead, it is much better to point people to God’s Word so that they might learn who God really is. Unfortunately, that is not easy. Pray for those who mock and ridicule the name of the Lord, but also pray for yourself, that God would show you how to point others to God’s Word.

Do you find it difficult to speak appropriately? Why?
