Deliverance

Deliverance

Therefore now amend your ways and your doings, and obey the voice of the LORD your God; and the LORD will repent him of the evil that he hath pronounced against you. Jeremiah 26:13

Read Jeremiah 26:12-15

Jeremiah was but a hair’s breadth from death, but help arose at precisely the right moment. The priests and false prophets had persuaded the people that the prophet deserved to die. This episode became known at the royal palace, and, thankfully, the elders made an appearance. These elders were the adjudicators of God’s people, also in captivity. The Lord, in a marvelous way, stepped into this trying situation.

Though surrounded by a mob of people who cried for his blood, Jeremiah stood like a granite rock in the midst of turbulent waves. He did not retract one word from what he had proclaimed. But he also pronounced more than judgment against the holy city and the temple. If the people would repent of their evil ways, then the Lord would turn His wrath away. Yes, then the LORD will repent him of the evil, that he hath pronounced against you. The Lord always looks for repentance from His people, even when He threatens them with His judgment. Never forget that the Lord does not desire your and my death and destruction. Do you believe this? Above all else, He desires that you turn from your evil ways and live! In fact, He has given a sign and seal upon your forehead indicating that He is willing to be your God! But that does not remove the command that you repent and be converted! The demand of the covenant and its promises belong together; you must acknowledge all of God’s Word!

Thought: Have you understood that you can stand before god only by pleading upon His gracious promises?

Psalter 260: 1,2,4 (based on Psalm 97) Jehovah reigns; let earth be glad And all the isles their joy make known; With clouds and darkness He is clad, On truth and justice rests His throne. Consuming fire destroys His foes, Around the world His lightnings blaze; The trembling earth His presence knows, The mountains melt before His gaze. Thy Church rejoices to behold Thy judgments in the earth, O Lord; Thy glory to the world unfold, Supreme o’er all be Thou adored.
