Ask A Pastor: Should I date someone unconverted, seeking a personal relationship with God and asking

Question:

Should I date someone who isn’t a Christian if they are asking me for help with getting a personal relationship with God and seem to have a desire to know God?

Answer:

No. There are questions we can answer ‘yes’ or ’no’ because at times the Bible gives very clear answers. We read in 2 Corinthians 6:14-15 the following: “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?” While this verse doesn’t speak directly to  dating or marriage it does establish the principle that we are not to join to that which is contrary to God.

Someone might respond: But what about this person who is asking for help? Refer them to someone who can explain the gospel to them apart from a dating relationship. This may be a Christian friend of the same gender or your pastor.

See this YouTube video for a more detailed response: ”Should a Christian date or marry a non-Christian?”. It is a very good extended answer!
