The True Word
“Did not our heart burn within us?” —Luke 24:32
Read Luke 24:13-35
If our hearts are filled with something, it will overflow into our lives. Or, as the Bible says, “Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also” (Matt. 6:21). What do your thoughts revolve around? What are the subjects of your conversation?
The two men in the text were filled with what happened to Jesus of Nazareth. They were very attached to Him. Although their reasoning along the road to Emmaus was due to their unbelief, still their minds were consumed with the Lord Jesus. This was positive, but they were still wrong.
This can also be true of you. You may be busy with the things of God and His service in a wrong way without even realizing it. The two travelers dealt with Christ’s death in an earthly, human way, not considering what He Himself had said to them. When we consider the Lord and our relationship to Him, we too can easily make the same mistake. We reason and talk and think and deliberate without using the Word of God, the Bible. Suddenly, these two men are taught by the risen Saviour Himself, not realizing that it was their Lord.
In what manner can we be guilty of seeking to fulfill the service of the Lord in the wrong way?
