Eternal Rest

“There remains therefore a rest for the people of God.” —Hebrews 4:9

Read Hebrews 4

The term “eternal rest” means to be forever with the Lord in glory. The question is, of course, whether you and I will enter into that rest. Shall we meet each other there?

If you would like to enter into this rest, you must do what we read in Hebrews 4:16: “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” Can we come, just like that? Do we not first have to do something? Let’s look at what needs to be done before we can come. First, payment must be made for our sins. However, that has already been done – Christ paid the price by dying on the cross at Golgotha. We don’t need to add anything. In fact, nothing can be added, for the Lord Jesus has paid in full. “Seeing then that we have a great High Priest, that is passed into the heavens, let us therefore come boldly.”

Do you not want to go? Then it will be your own fault that you go lost without Him. Would you go after all? Then you will be helped at the appointed time. God the Father will give His children to Jesus Christ at His time. One day, they will enter into the rest prepared for the children of God.

What does it mean that the Lord has paid the full price?
