A Public Rescue Plan

A Public Rescue Plan

But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory. 1 Corinthians 2:7

Read 1 Corinthians 2

Have you ever considered what you are reading when you open the Bible? Amazingly, you are being confronted with God’s way of thinking. In writing to the congregation located in the ancient harbour of Corinth, the apostle Paul declared that the preaching of the gospel consisted of Jesus Christ and Him crucified. Therein the wisdom of God was revealed. This wisdom has been developed in a particular plan, and this plan has to do with the greatest problem that faces the whole of humanity. What is that problem? It is the problem of sin and man’s natural inclination to it.

Sometimes plans are made to address a specific issue. However, if they remain in a drawer they do not profit anyone. Only when they are published and shown to the general public can they be evaluated. For instance: a designer of a beautiful building project will not be praised for his achievements unless the design is shown and the house built.

This is also the case when it comes to the rescue plan the Lord has made. In His wisdom, God has opened the way for man to be restored to Himself, that he might live with Him forever. That way is the way of the cross. Because of the Lord Jesus’ sacrifice, communion has been made possible between God and sinful men. God’s Word, the Bible, reveals that plan to us; it has become public knowledge to all who what to know it. However, only through the work of the Holy Spirit can we discover and admire the wisdom of God’s grace.

Thought: Have you ever marveled at the rescue plan that God has made?

Psalter 427:5 (based on Psalm 118) The stone the builders had rejected, And in contempt refused to own, To their dismay has been selected To be the foremost corner stone. This thing is from the Lord Almighty, It is a marvel in our eyes; Man cannot understand it rightly Nor fathom it in any wise.
