“One’s duty”
But ye are a chosen generation. —1 Peter 2:9
Read 1 Peter 2:1-10
Those who possess a true faith belong, in body and soul, to their faithful Saviour Jesus Christ. The duty to obey God’s law and to live a holy life flows from this fact. The Lord says, “Be ye holy; for I am holy” (1Pet.1:16), and in 1 Peter 2:9 the people of God are called “an holy nation,” part of a “royal priesthood.” This means that the nation had the high calling to serve as the priest did in biblical times. Peter told them that they were a nation of priests – they had an office to fulfill in this world.
In other words, the people of God are servants of the Lord on this earth, called to “show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.” (1Pet2:9) God’s people are to proclaim by life and lip that the Lord shows mercy to lost sinners.
Why, and when will we proclaim the goodness of the Lord?
