Christ

“Thou art the Christ.” —Mark 8:29

Read Mark 8:27-30

It would be demoralizing if Satan had free reign when tempting mankind. When we look around us, sometimes it seems that he does reign freely. But appearances deceive, as we sometimes say, which is thankfully true in this case. Satan does not have unrestricted power; it is his Enemy who holds all power. This is none other than Christ, the Son of the living God, the “the anointed One,” and “the King.”

Through Christ’s active obedience, by suffering and dying, He earned the title “King.” Now He sits at the right hand of God the Father and uses all that pertains to this title for the benefit of His people. There is therefore only one name given under heaven by which we can be saved! Satan does not rule; Christ Jesus does. He will protect His Church on earth, and while Satan may cause havoc, he does not have the last word! Take notice: Christ rules and upholds His Church; He has suffered, died, and risen again on behalf of sinners.

What an enormous comfort this is! Amid all the storms of this life, while evil is increasing, there is still a safe haven of rest. Are you seeking this safe Haven, this Rock of ages, in the middle of the storm?

What does it mean that Christ has all power?
