“God’s law as an aid to express thankfulness”
But his delight is in the law of the LORD. —Psalm 1:2
Read Psalm 1
When you have found your true love, your happiness knows no bounds. You dream about him or her, you talk about your relationship, and you are willing to do anything for the object of your affection. That which the heart is full of will also be the subject of one’s conversation. You will want to talk about your new found love all the time. This is also true spiritually speaking. When a sinner has found the Saviour, or to say it more accurately, has been found by Christ, he is full of Him. God’s law enables a sinner to express his new emotions in a proper way. Verse 2 says, “But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and in his law doth he meditate day and night.”
How can anyone thank the Lord for all the benefits bestowed upon them? By meditating upon God’s law and living by it! This does not take place by coercion, but out of sincere love and true thanksgiving. This is the third function of the law. Do you desire to keep the law of the Lord and to meditate on it? He is so worthy of our adoration. He gives life, eternal life, delivering from sin and death. Whoever walks in His ways with an up-right heart, delighting in them, he shall prosper as a tree by the river side. This prosperity exists even in this life in spite of many trials and sorrows. It is the secret of a life that is hid in Christ.
